New year, new wanderlust. And somewhere a hotel is opening up again that is flirting its way onto my personal bucket list in no time at all. But such a location doesn’t always have to be completely rebuilt, sometimes hosts take advantage of the situation of the last few months to turn their accommodation smart and sexy inside out, to install a few new amenities such as exciting pools or a new restaurant – and then that also counts for me as a hotel opening in 2022, which you should definitely take a look at live. But the wanderlust always remains the same. Here, too, I’ve tried to mainly collect new inspiration destinations that don’t also open up whole new heights in terms of price, but still remain affordable. But a little dreaming without a budget is always allowed. Oh yes: The article will of course be regularly fed with updates. Feeding time is a matter of honor.
Palma Riad, Mallorca
A real hit! No, Mallorca is not only Ballerman, vacation hits are here also classy to check in. Brand new in the Palma record player is the Palma Riad. The design hotel mixes Orient and Balearics or 1001 Nights with architectural daydreams. Opened in 2022, the location is based on the concept of a traditional riad – a historic definition where private rooms surround an open courtyard. Speaking of location, the privileged location in the heart of Palma thus offers guests the opportunity to explore the city’s stores, art galleries and restaurants, which are just steps from the door. The hotel is synonymous with the popular Moroccan riads, and the idea is a common thread throughout the property – small, exclusive, urban, and located on a narrow street. Palma Riad has taken this concept and added design, luxury, and nightlife elements to create a unique hotel in the heart of Palma, Mallorca.
Cozy fabrics, striking architecture, wood, marble and a fireplace: if the setting doesn’t scream wine tasting!
Cinematic design: the Palma Riad’s hammam-style bathrooms.
How to stay? Palma Riad has 11 suites, each with an individual design. Each accommodation is different, with most rooms having a fireplace and some a terrace. Some beautifully tiled bathrooms are reminiscent of a Moroccan hammam, while most rooms have huge bathtubs and double showers. Others are more cave-like in decor. Many rooms have fireplaces, including some very decadent ones, in the bathrooms. Would be a perfect location for the Tiktok trend with the sound of “1001 nights, Arabian nights.”
A feast for the eyes – and taste buds: the bar.
The water pool in the courtyard of the Palma Riad flirts with all the rules of art.
Cue tasteful vacations: Morokko Bar and Restaurant serves fusion cuisine; the menu is a combination of cultures around the Mediterranean, from Spain to Morocco plus a pinch of Asia. The current menu includes vegan Nikkei tomatoes with avocado ceviche, grilled tuna belly with cous cous, and crepes suzette with triple sec and orange. Whether the water basin in the courtyard is meant to be a fountain to look at or a pool, I couldn’t figure out – but if I were beamed there, I would nonchalantly take a dive.
Admittedly: Actually, I stand for affordable hotel secret tips, but I found the idea and design so inspiring to dream that I present the location anyway. Who knows: Maybe you’ll find a hidden piggy bank somewhere, with which you can afford access to the flying carpet to Palma.

Hotel Hubertus, South Tyrol
That my eyes wander especially to South Tyrol when it comes to newly renovated, even newly opened hotels or hotels with fresh upgrades in terms of spa, pool or restaurant could of course guess practiced readers of the blog. The infatuation with the region is well known. An infinity pool to fall in love with the Hotel Hubertus already has, I think, there might be one or the other already stumbled across pictures or a drone video, which then leaves speechless. But rest, the hotel prefers to leave that to the guests and has thought about how to make such a vacation experience because still cool on the head. What can I say: the answer speaks wanderlust. Because who checks in from May this year in the Belvita hotel Hubertus in Olang in the South Tyrolean Pustertal, may relax free of giddiness. And that goes together – architecturally implemented – pretty sexy.
Clean design with a clear perspective: the relaxed new SPA Suite.
In the restaurant area, panorama also comes on the plate.
The building artwork “Heaven and Hell” offers forbidden good relaxation possibilities in the lounging and sitting whirlpool in the “Heaven”, as the upper floor is called. A walkway connects the Sky Spa with the relaxation room, whose glass front opens up unique views of the Kronplatz. A staircase then leads down to the “hell”. Here, the cottages are mounted upside down and seem to reflect the upper level like the surface of a lake. So you take a seat as a guest in the roof truss – the wellness world is literally upside down. In the nude area on the lower level, things get really hot and cold: two saunas, a nude whirlpool and a cold chamber with an unobstructed view of the mountains promise spa fun. Definitely the second highlight next to the famous Skypool. Work up an appetite? A lot has also been done in the hotel in other respects: the restaurant, fitness and gymnastics room have been given a new look, ten new sauna suites complement the portfolio, and 32 rooms have been renovated. In all rooms you sleep directly at the window, the view of South Tyrol always in view. The restaurant area also shines in new splendor, with seven cozy rooms including large window fronts. Nice, isn’t it?

Hotel Muchele, South Tyrol
And we stay directly in South Tyrol, there is finally enough food for travel inspiration and of course my private bucket list. The Hotel Muchele has been on my bucket list for a long time, I was allowed to meet the hosts for lunch in Munich, but the visit is still pending. Why is the hotel on the “must-visit” list? Because South Tyrolean tradition, a heart for architecture and conscious enjoyment come together here. Oh yes, and recently a second pool with Miami vibes was freshly carpentered and poured into the hotel family. Goes through so for me still legitimately as a hotel opening 2022.
The trio of sisters Martina, Priska and Anna run the house once built by their grandparents with down-to-earth hospitality and love for the mostly Italian Moroso design. Motto at the Muchele: small and fine. There should be no more than 40 rooms and suites. I like just that kind of thing, not too cramped, but also not afraid to get lost in the concrete jungle. In Burgstall, just five kilometers from Merano, the Mediterranean four-star superior wellness hotel is casual and elegant, and thanks to wine tastings, outdoor cooking classes and its own coffee roastery, it’s an exciting port of call for curious pleasure fans with a pool quirk like me.
In the Muchele you can certainly sleep like a dream in a bright design.
The fact that architecture and enjoyment play a major role for the hosts is immediately apparent.
Just in time for the beginning of spring, the Muchele shows itself in the very best style with a casual Miami Beach feeling. Switching off is desired, but at the same time the program may continue full steam ahead. Guests can try their hand in the new outdoor kitchen, led by – also new – chef Patrick Holzner. He relies on local products, coupled with solid craftsmanship. The large terrace brings the indoors outdoors, the green island gets a new look, the garden invites you to relax. The green and yellow lounge sofas as well as the squiggly wing chairs in bright colors require courage, but appear mighty comfortable. The centerpiece, however, is clearly the new infinity pool made of South Tyrolean natural stone porphyry, 18 meters long and filled with salt water. Incidentally, the Muchele is also a member of the Vinum Hotels, some of which I have already presented to you here – such as the Plattenhof or the Plantitscherhof – with a practical test, and in which one has dedicated oneself entirely to wine enjoyment and special wine offers for wine lovers. And I was just poured again wanderlust.

Magma Resort Santorini – Unbound by Hyatt
When you go through social media, you get the feeling that you’re only allowed to be an influencer on land in Santorini, or to even think of this designation, if you’ve photographed your summer outfit with white houses, cliff and sea. But since I’m not aiming to pin the title of Influencer on my lapel or imagine anything about it, I don’t have to worry about that. What appeals to me more about Santorini is to consciously enjoy this location. So what kind of food journey can I experience there, jumping into a pool with a picture-book view, a bottle of local wine, and simply putting my smartphone aside? This is certainly a few price classes below authentic better than in this hotel opening in 2022 on the Greek island, but you can dream, and I think the Magma Resort would be a dream location to enjoy pleasure and disconnection in eye candy design.
The architecture of Magma Resort Santorini is based on traditional Cycladic houses and the ambience of the island. The modern exterior is built of lava rock, among other materials. All 59 guest rooms and suites (including 46 with private pools and Jacuzzis) offer unobstructed views of the Aegean Islands and the island of Anafi. As part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, Magma Resort Santorini offers guests modern luxury for personalized experiences.
Muted colors, noble materials: the eye and the mind can switch off.
Modern dishes are served here in this hotel opening 2022 simultaneously with wanderlust view.
Nestled in traditional old vineyards, the resort is located on the lava rock slopes of Vourvoulos. In the immediate vicinity are pretty lava sand beaches and popular places like Fira and Oia, which have a quasi patronage ticket for sunsets for free. And what about the topic of enjoyment? The culinary offering in the form of the Magma by Spondi restaurant is run by a chef who has been awarded two Michelin stars. Here, products from local agriculture and seasonal ingredients are used to create the menus. The restaurant’s menu includes distinctive dishes and other meals with outstanding wines from the island’s rich selection. This info from the press release still reads a bit fuzzy, but makes you curious to pull it over your plate in person for an investigative look. After one has fed before star-ripe its piggy bank.
